The Counselling is proposed in four main rounds (R1, R2, R3, R4), one internal sliding round (R5). The details of each Round of Counselling shall be as follows:
Round 1
Eligible candidates who wish to participate in the counselling process must register online at https://uptac.admissions.nic.in by paying a non-refundable registration fee of ₹1000. After registration, candidates are required to upload the necessary documents, which will be verified online by the Central Document Verification Team. Once the verification is successfully completed, candidates will receive an SMS or email notification. Upon receiving this, they can proceed to fill in their preferred choices of institutions and branches based on their eligibility. It is strongly advised that candidates carefully select the institutes and branches they genuinely wish to join. After the choice filling window closes as per the schedule (available on the official website), an automated seat allotment process will be conducted based on merit and the preferences submitted. The seat allotment results will be published online, accessible through the candidate’s login credentials. Once a seat is allotted, the candidate must pay a Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹20,000 for General and OBC categories, or ₹12,000 for SC and ST categories. After this payment, the candidate can choose to either "Freeze" (confirm the seat) or "Float" (wait for a better option in the next round) their allotted seat. A seat acceptance report will then be generated, also reflecting the candidate's willingness for the next round of counselling.
Round 2
Candidates who have registered and paid the registration fee but did not submit any choices in the earlier round will not be allowed to submit fresh choices or modify them. Their previously allotted seat, if any, will be retained, although their category may be upgraded as per the applicable rules. Candidates who were allotted a seat in the earlier round will retain their seat and will be eligible for upgradation. They will be allowed to modify their choices; however, if no changes are made, the choices submitted in Round 1 will be considered final for Round 2. Similarly, candidates who registered, paid the fee, and submitted choices but were not allotted any seat in the previous round will also be permitted to modify their choices. If no modifications are made, the choices submitted during Round 1 will automatically be treated as final for Round 2.
Round 3
Candidates who have registered and paid the registration fee but did not submit any choices in the earlier round will not be permitted to modify or submit choices in the current round. Their previously allotted seat, if any, will be retained, although their allotted category may be upgraded as per the applicable rules. Candidates who were allotted a seat in the earlier round will also retain their seat and will be eligible for upgradation. These candidates will be allowed to modify their choices, and if no modifications are made, the choices submitted in the earlier round will be considered final for Round 3. Similarly, candidates who registered, paid the registration fee, and submitted choices but were not allotted any seat will be allowed to modify their earlier submitted choices. If no changes are made, their previous choices will be treated as final for Round 3.
Round 4
Candidates who have been allotted a seat in the earlier round but did not submit or modify their choices will not be allowed to make any changes at this stage. Their previously allotted seat will be retained, and they will be considered for category upgradation, if applicable. Candidates who registered, paid the fee, and submitted choices but were not allotted any seat in the earlier round will be considered for seat allotment based on their existing choices. A candidate who has frozen a seat in Round 1, 2, or 3 may still be eligible for category upgradation on the same seat. Meanwhile, candidates who opted for the float option may be upgraded to a higher-preference seat based on the final choices submitted. Additionally, candidates who were not allotted any seat in the previous rounds may receive a seat allotment in this round, depending on availability and merit.
Round 5 (Internal Sliding)
All candidates who have opted for Internal Sliding will be considered for seat upgradation within their allotted institution. If a candidate is allotted an upgraded seat through this process, they will not be allowed to withdraw or revert to the previously allotted seat.
