Seat Distribution for Pharmacy Colleges in kerala

Seat distribution for Pharmacy courses in Kerala affiliated to Kerala University of Health and Sciences (https://www.kuhs.ac.in/) and  PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) (https://www.pci.nic.in/)  and AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) ( https://www.aicte-india.org/ ), New Delhi 

Age : should have completed 17 years of age on 31/12. No upper age limit for B.Pharm, Pharm.D & D.Pharm courses.

B. Pharm – Bachelor in Pharmacy (4 years – 8 semesters)

Eligibility: 

  • For first year B.Pharm course the candidate must have passed 10+2 or PUC or Equivalent examination from recognized board or university with a cut-off percentage of 50% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) or PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) as optional subjects individually.
  • Lateral entry to third semester (3 Years – 6 semesters) needs a person to have completed D.Pharm course from an institution approved by PCI & AICTE.
  • Medium of instruction and examination shall be in English.

Admission procedure

Admission procedure is divided into two categories, i.e., Government seat and Management seat. 

Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala will be doing Counseling for 100% seats for Government, Government aided Central Universities, National Institutes, and 50% seats for private college as per rank secure in KEAM ( Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical) entrance examination www.cee.kerala.gov.in . For 50% Management Seats Kerala State Self- Financing Pharmacy College Managements Association (KSSPCMA) www.kssbcma.com will conduct a separate selection procedure for admission to B.Pharm. 

B. Pharm – Bachelor in Pharmacy

D. Pharm – Diploma in Pharmacy (2 Years) 

Eligibility: 

  • A pass in any of the following Examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics:
  1. Intermediate examination in science,
  2. the first year of three year degree course in science,
  3. 10+2 examination (academic stream) in science,
  4. pre-degree examination, or v) any other qualifications approved by PCI as equivalent to any of the above examinations.
  • N.B : However candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from outside the state of Kerala shall produce the certificate of recognition and equivalency of qualifying examination from Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. This should be furnished at the time of admission. Eligibility for admission to the candidates belonging to OBC, OEC, SC/ST will be as per the requirements of the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. (Individual Member Colleges will have the right to fix higher eligibility criteria for admission in all courses.)

Government seat in Private Pharmacy colleges, 50% of seats will be merit seats and it will be filled up according to rank as per the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained for Physics & Chemistry at the qualifying examination.  

The remaining 50% management seat Kerala State Self- Financing Pharmacy College Managements Association (KSSPCMA) www.kssbcma.com will conduct a separate selection procedure for admission to D.Pharm.

D. Pharm – Diploma in Pharmacy

Pharm- D – Doctor of Pharmacy (6 years – 5 years of study & 1 Year of Internship or Residency)

The Doctor of Pharmacy, also known as Pharm D, is a professional Pharmacy doctoral programme which is a requisite for candidates who want to practice pharmacy. In India it was introduced in the year 2008 and it is a 6 years program after 10+2 or D. Pharm. It is slightly different from M.Pharm. Some unique features of Pharm D include- eligibility to register for Ph.D., prefix ‘Dr.’ to name and a registrable qualification after completion of course. Pharm D mostly includes a patient-centered curriculum and hence, patients will be benefited the most. The patients would be able to know all the information about their disease, drugs and lifestyle modifications for the disease in future which would definitely increase prognosis of the patients. The clinical pharmacy services would also minimize the work-load of physicians from their busy schedule as well as it would decrease the load on the Indian health-care system.

Eligibility for Pharm D:

  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 from recognized board or P.U.C.  examination of Kerala with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects-Mathematics or Biology or P.C.M.B.
  • Candidates who have passed D.Pharm from PCI approved institutions
  • Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examinations.

HOW TO APPLY:-B.Pharm, Pharm.D & D.Pharm courses (Private seat)

The candidates shall apply online for B.Pharm, Pharm.D & D.Pharm courses. The link for applying is available in the Association website www.kssbcma.com. All the candidates shall fill all required column including the column for DD (Demand draft) number of application fee.

M. Pharm – Master of Pharmacy (2 years – 4 semesters)

Eligibility:

  • The candidates who have passed the B.Pharm Degree examination from any of the Universities in Kerala or from any other Universities recognised by the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur as equivalent thereto from an institution recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education, New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India, with a minimum of 55% marks for all the Three years of B.Pharm Examination (B.Pharm II, III, IV year) taken together, will be eligible for admission. For service candidates seeking admission against the reserved quota, the minimum marks required shall also be 55%. Candidates who have passed their B.Pharm course from Universities outside Kerala will be eligible for admission only if their qualifying examination is recognized by the Kerala University of Health Sciences before the last date specified for submission of academic data. For candidates having not less than 5 years professional experience, after passing B.Pharm course, there shall be relaxation in pass percentage from 55% to 50% for admission to M.Pharm Course.
  • For candidates belonging to SC/ST communities a minimum of 50% marks for all the Three years of B.Pharm Examination (B.Pharm II, III, IV year) taken together, will be eligible for admission.
  • Every student, selected for admission to postgraduate pharmacy course in any of the pharmacy institution in the country should have obtained registration with the State Pharmacy Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of his admission, failing which the admission of the candidates shall be cancelled.
  • Age There is no upper age limit for General Quota candidates

SELECTION :-

Selection of candidates, including service quota candidates, will be made based on the rank of the qualified candidate in GRADUATE PHARMACY APTITUDE TEST(GPAT)  ( https://gpat.nta.nic.in/  ) conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and subject to other eligibility criteria prescribed in this prospectus. Those who are not qualified in GPAT-2020 are not eligible for admission. 

CENTRALISED ALLOTMENT(SWS) :-

The allotment to respective colleges/courses/branches is through a Single Window Centralized Allotment Process based on the options filed by the candidate online. The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala will prepare the rank list and conduct the online allotment process. 

Admission procedure is divided into two categories, i.e., Government seat and Management seat.50% of total seats for M. Pharm course in self financing colleges are set apart for admissions under Government merit quota and the remaining 50% seats under Management quota .Admission for M.Pharm  may be conducted on the basis of two online counseling allotments and one spot allotment.

Pharm.D (PB) Post Baccalaureate - (Two Years plus one year internship or residency)

Eligibility for Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate course:

- A candidate who was passed the B.Pharm degree examination from Kerala University of Health Sciences or an examination equivalent thereto of any other University recognized by Kerala University of Health Sciences with not less than a total of 50% marks for B.Pharm degree examination shall be eligible for admission to Pharm.D (PB)course. The candidate should have undergone B.Pharm degree in an institution approved by PCI. 

-Candidates who have passed their B.Pharm course from University outside Kerala will be eligible for admission only if their qualifying examination is recognized by the Kerala University of Health Sciences, on the date of application/allotment. The candidate shall fulfill eligibility before last date of application

Admissions will be done on the basis of the Score obtained by the candidate in the GPAT, from among the applicants with eligibility in the qualifying examination by Kerala State Self- Financing Pharmacy College Managements Association (KSSPCMA) www.kssbcma.com 

HOW TO APPLY :-M.Pharm (Government seat)

A qualified candidate in GPAT seeking admission to the courses should apply online through the website www.cee.kerala.gov.in of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. 

***The Government and the respective Managements are in the process of negotiation for seat sharing. The current understanding is that the Managements may permit the Government to fill up 50% of seats for B.Pharm, D.Pharm & M.Pharm and 100% seats in Pharm.D is filled by the concerned managements. In case no agreement is arrived at, the Colleges will fill-up the entire seats. Seats that may remain unfilled by the Government (in case seats are shared) also will be filled by the Colleges concerned. If Govt. shows interest in sharing the seats of Pharm.D, 50% of the seats will be allotted as per the outcome of the discussion with Govt.
