The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology was established in 1972 at BIT Mesra. The college is affiliated to Jharkhand Rai University and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India(PCI). The Department encourages and supports studies involving a range of research strategies which are supported by various national and international funding agencies like UGC, AICTE, DRDO, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST, BMBF (Germany), UGC-UKIERI etc. The Department also has collaboration with Institute of Biochemistry, University of Luebeck, Germany; Laboratoire Architecture et Fonction des Macromelécules Biologiques, Départment de Viologie Structurale et Drug Design, Marseille Cedex 09 France; De Montfort University, Leicester, UK and University of Turin, Italy, Department of Crystallography and Biophysics, University of Madras, Chennai, India for research in the area of antiviral agents.

Admission Procedure:

To apply for admission with Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi , candidates should contact the admission offices (listed below) or the JRU Campus in Ranchi; candidates should be at par with the minimum eligibility criteria as prescribed for the course they are willing to take admission. Before submitting the application form, candidates should ensure that the latest prospectus of JRU offers their choice of course and they fulfill the eligibility as laid down in it.

  • Candidates need to buy the admission form, from admission offices of Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi (listed below) or the JRU Campus in Ranchi at a fee of Rs.500/-
  • Application form can also be downloaded from the JRU website (www.jru.edu.in). The duly filled in application form in black/blue ink in Capital Letters without overwriting along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 550/- drawn in favor of ‘Jharkhand Rai University’ payable at Ranchi should be sent to the admission office.

Note: Photocopy and Original both are required at the time of Admission. Photocopy of all required certificate should be duly self attested.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm):

The B. Pharm. programme is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The B. Pharm. Programme is accredited by NBA for Five Years (2017-2022). The proposed course aims to provide students with a broad theoretical and practical background in Pharmaceutical Sciences with knowledge concerned with Pharmaceutical Analysis, Medicinal chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Jurisprudence, etc. In this 4 years Full Time Residential Course, professional attention is given to train students in all aspects of Pharmaceutical Sciences which includes handling and testing pharmaceuticals / related products using analytical instruments (like HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS, HPTLC, FTIR, IR, GC, DSC etc) and acquaint students with the latest industrial trends as well as National or International standards organization.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must have appeared in JEE (Main) or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Candidates must have passed Class 12 / I.Sc. or equivalent qualifying examination. Candidates must have passed in English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology in Class 12 / I.Sc. or Equivalent Qualifying Examination with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD). Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of following 4 subjects - English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics / Biology.
Selection Procedures: Selections will be made on merit, that will be drawn by giving –
o 60% weightage to JEE (Main) / National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) Score [total marks obtained] and
o 40% weightage to academic performance (marks in Class 12 / equivalent qualifying examination)
o Candidates must meet the age criteria and other minimum academic requirements.

Master Of Pharmacy (M. Pharm):

The proposed course aims to provide students with a broad theoretical and practical background in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with knowledge concerned with medicinal drugs obtained from synthetic and natural sources. The course deals with the study of drugs, and it involves drug development. The course discusses qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques, synthesis of pharmaceuticals, and natural products chemistry as per the standard regulatory guidelines. In this 2 years Full Time Residential Course, professional attention is given to train students in handling and testing natural pharmaceuticals / related products using analytical instruments (like HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS, HPTLC, FTIR, IR, GC, DSC etc) and acquaint students with the latest industrial trends as well as National or International standards organization. Research includes in-silico design, synthesis (conventional, microwave, development of combinatorial solution phase synthetic techniques) and evaluation of novel candidate compounds with special reference to heterocyclic moieties and small peptides in the field of antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, antiviral, antiHIV, anticancer, analgesic, antihistaminic, anticonvulsant, cardiovascular, antidiabetic and other activities. Natural products-chemistry/ pharmacology/ structure standardization/ using spectroscopic methods (UV-VIS/IR/NMR/MS etc.) and Studies on synthetic nutraceuticals.

Eligibility Criteria

GPAT qualified candidates – Based on academic record and GPAT score
• Merit list is prepared on the basis of 80% weightage to GPAT Score and
• 20% weightage to Class 10, 12 and graduation marks


Non-GPAT candidates – Based on academic record and Entrance Test
• Merit list is prepared on the basis of 80% weightage to marks obtained in Entrance Test and
• 20% weightage to Class 10, 12 and graduation marks

Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm):

Diploma in Pharmacy is a 2-year full-time Diploma course divided into 4 semesters. D. Pharmacy has been designed to prepare candidates to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in hospitals, community pharmacies, and other related pharmaceutical fields.

COURSE DURATION: 2 YRS CREDITS REQUIRED-160

ELIGIBLITY: 10+2 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Maths or equivalent

Reservation Policy (Admission)

    • ST – 26%
    • SC – 10%
    • OBC – 14%
    • Unreserved – 50%
    • EWS- 10% (These seats shall be supernumerary in nature)
    • Against the vacant seats of ST, the SC candidates if available will be admitted.
    • Against the vacant seats of SC, the ST candidates if available will be admitted.
    • If no candidates of SC and ST are available for admission, then the vacant seats will be filled with the following preference
      1. OBC
      2. General.
