Dibrugarh University, the easternmost University in India, was established in 1965 consequent upon the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965, enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. It is a leading research and innovation driven University that acts as a spatial slot to configure the socio-cultural dynamics of North East India.The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences was established at Dibrugarh University in 1983 as the first establishment for offering Four years integrated Bachelor Degree course in Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) in entire North East India with the intake of students from the seven North East States of India (Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland). The initial establishment financial assistance came from the NEC (North Eastern Council), Shillong. All the courses conducted in this Department are approved by the PCI and the AICTE.

Seat Distribution for Pharmacy Colleges 

Seat distribution for Pharmacy courses in Assam is approved by  PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) (https://www.pci.nic.in/) and AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) ( https://www.aicte-india.org )

1.Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) Course

Eligibility criteria: For admission to the First Semester of the B. Pharm. Course, one must have passed either-
(i) The (10+2) Examination (Science stream) of the Assam Higher Secondary Council, or any other examination recognised by the Dibrugarh University as equivalent to this examination, securing not less than 50% (45% for candidates belonging to Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes) marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
OR
(ii) The Two-Year Diploma in Pharmacy Examination of Assam or of any other Institution which is recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India and AICTE securing not less than 50% marks in the aggregate.

Duration of course and Examination:
(a) The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) programme is a Four years Graduate Degree Course comprising of Eight Semesters. Each semester is of six-month duration.
(b) Examination and evaluation are done on a continuous basis in each semester. 60% marks of each Theory and Practical paper in a semester are allotted to End-Semester Examination and 40% marks are allotted to In-Semester Examination/ Assessment. End-Semester Examination is held at the end of each Semester.

Mode of Selection: Counseling of sort listed candidate based on merit-
(i) Percentage of H. S. Marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(ii) Percentage of marks in two years Diploma in Pharmacy Examination.

2. Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) Course:

Eligibility criteria: For admission to the First Semester of the M. Pharm. Course, one must have passed Four year Bachelor Degree Course in Pharmacy securing not less than 55% marks from Dibrugarh University or from any other University recognized by the Dibrugarh University, PCI and AICTE.

Candidates applying under Sponsored category should have a minimum of two years of teaching experience after obtaining B. Pharm. Degree (Candidates from academic institutions) or two years of industrial experience with Approval as a Chemist from the respective Drugs Control Authority (Candidates from industrial organizations).

Duration of course:

(a)The Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) programme is a Two years Post Graduate
Degree Course comprising of Four Semesters. Each semester is of six-month duration.

Mode of selection: Counseling of sort listed candidate based on merit. Candidates having valid score of GPAT or equivalent examination get preference.

3. Ph. D Programme:

The Ph. D programme is conducted as per the Dibrugarh University Regulations for the Research Council and for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) 2015 (amended up to May, 2016). The Research Council is the apex body that administers the research programmes of the University.

Eligibility criteria:
(a) A candidate seeking admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme shall have to obtain at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree OR equivalent grade point.
(b) All applicants seeking admission to the Doctoral programme of the University [except foreign students applying for admission] must clear the Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test (DURAT).
(c) The DURAT is conducted annually by the University. The mode of conducting the DURAT is decided by the Research Council time to time.
(d) Foreign candidates intending to pursue the Ph.D. Programme of Dibrugarh University are exempted from DURAT. All other matters related to the foreign candidates are governed by the Dibrugarh University Rules for Foreign Students.

Intake capacity: Intake of Ph. D students varies depending on the availability of positions under the approved supervisors.

Pre-Registration Course Work of Ph. D programme: All eligible candidates of Ph. D programme have to undertake a Six-Month Pre-Registration Course Work in the Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and pass the course work examination before submitting application for Registration in the Ph. D programme.
